Rattlers receive 12-4A honors
For the Navasota Rattlers they are aware they let a game slip from their grasp to end the season in the area round of the playoffs. Navasota did achieve their goal of winning a District 12-4A Championship under second year head coach Casey Dacus.
The 6-0 undefeated record Navasota posted in 12-4A didn’t go unnoticed when coaches convened to vote on individual district accolades.
Topping the list of honors are the Navasota coaching staff voted “Coaching Staff of the Year” and La’Darrin Thomas garnishing the “District MVP.”
Four Rattlers were named to the “First Team All-District Offensive team.” Senior Zack Dyer was voted in as quarterback. Joining Dyer in the backfield were running back Darick Henderson and fullback Mark Martinez.
Alfredo Villasenor was a big part of creating running lanes and allowing Dyer time in the pocket earning him a spot on the first team as an offensive lineman.
On the defensive side of the ball, Navasota had five players named to the “First Team All-District Team.”
The Rattlers defensive dominance began in the trenches with lineman Jordan Jefferson, a Texas A&M commit and the unblock-able defensive end Ja’Eric Beasley.
Dennerick Henderson made the team as a linebacker and two Rattlers that solidified the defensive secondary made the team, safety Keith Steptoe and cornerback Tavarus Baker.
Also receiving honors were five Rattlers voted “Second Team All-District.” The list includes on offense Tavarus Baker (receiver) and Eberardo Alvarado (offensive lineman).
Defensively Cal Acosta (defensive end) and Joel Castaneda (linebacker) earned a spot on the team.
Junior Miguel Alvarado rounded out the awards for Navasota making the second team as a kicker.
