Looking for something to do with the family after Thanksgiving? Why not travel back in time and discover the 1850s at Fanthorp Inn? Each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Twilight Firelight comes to the Inn in Anderson. This year’s event will take place Saturday, Nov. 30, from 4:30 p.m. till 7 p.m. Visitors will enjoy the ambiance of the candlelit Inn, period music, dancing, mule-drawn stagecoach rides and re-en-actors clad in period attire. Activities will begin at the Grimes County Courthouse where visitors will board a replica stagecoach or wagon for a ride down Main Street to the Fanthorp Inn. Upon arrival visitors will step back in time as the glow of a candle flickers in the parlor window and the sound of fiddle fills the air. There is no admission fee but has a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students 12 and under. You might want to dress for the season and be prepared for the weather as the event will take place in a period setting with some portions outside. You are missing out on a wonderful time if you haven’t experienced this event with your family. Think about having an interesting evening right here in Grimes County.

The KBTX Food for Families Food Drive is just around the corner. The goal of this mission is to eliminate hunger by the distribution of food and grocery products through a network of nonprofit organizations while providing education and community awareness on issues of hunger. On Dec. 4, you may deliver any food or monetary donations to Mid-South Synergy in Navasota from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. 100 percent of the donations stay in the county they are donated in. A list of items you can donate are: canned or dried beans, canned meat, cereal and cereal bars, coffee, canned or dried pasta, paper towels, toilet paper, peanut butter, children’s diapers, canned fruits or vegetables, rice and soups. If you have any question, or would like to volunteer at the Food Drive, contact Erin Hughes, 936-825-5100 or ehughes@midsouthsynergy.com.
