Tis the season for fundraisers
Whitehall News
Thank you to the American Legion McCluskey Post 640 of Anderson who presented a wonderful program for POW/MIA Day Friday, Sept.
20. The story of the McCluskey Brothers, who this post is named for, was very interesting and I always enjoy the story of the missing man table. Commander Lambert did the opening and closing prayer. It always makes me proud to introduce my Whitehall friends, Rick and Cindy Large, who make every effort to attend events representing our country.
The Grimes Veterans of Foreign War Post 4006 Auxiliary also included the missing man table at the monthly business meeting and the younger veterans were impressed. In addition, two of the more recent members assisted in performing the proper flag folding procedure for the auxiliary members. Thank you, Wade and Charlie.
I was questioned about Mr. Charlie Waters because I took him out of the sick and homebound list. Since I had not heard any more about him, I made that decision. Unfortunately, when I checked into Facebook world, there was a post from his daughter who is apparently setting up an account for people to donate to his nursing home expenses. If I find out more information, I will share.
Billy and Linda Robbins let me catch a ride with them to the Rattler game in Madisonville. I want to thank them again for such a good time. Perhaps I should apologize for getting so loud when I got in for free since I am a senior. Scouts from Mexia were sitting directly behind us and they were yelling for Navasota. One of these fellows even put a Rattler shirt on over his. After the game, Linda let me help pass out meals to the team. For the record, the boys were respectful. It is fantastic to see several ministers on the sidelines to support the team. Tony Lambert, commander of the VFW Post, mentors three Rattlers throughout the year. Several churches choose a Friday during football season and serve breakfast to the team and talk with them prior to the pep rally. This is a wonderful program.
Salem Lutheran Church and Lynn Grove United Methodist Church continue to welcome visitors. LGUMC begins at 9 a.m. and SLC begins at 10 a.m.
It is that time of year, fund-raisers from all the school children. Today I had to remind myself that I still have Christmas wrapping paper from two years ago.
Thank you to all the people who donated to the Whitehall Community VFD annual fund-raiser. Don’t forget to come Oct. 20 for a barbecue meal at the Whitehall Community Center. The serving will begin at 11 a.m. and the live auction will begin at 1 p.m. We will also have bucket raffle items.
No winner for the Queen of Hearts last Saturday. This Gingi is about to get accustomed to the bar scene, not sure that is a good thing!
Our sick and homebound friends include Sue Kolojaco, Lawrence Lieder, Dorothy Mahaffey, Charles Waters, Mary Bauer, Lillian Shim-shack, Albin Finke, Rosa Finke, Lois Bell, Rickey Binford, Leon Gorney, Doug Taylor, Garry Wise, Kathy Cave Wells, Glenn Binder and Alexander Hanna, grandson of Curtis and Darla Kolojaco. Please add these friends to your prayer list.
