NISD reaches agreement with GLS
Navasota ISD board of trustees unanimously approved the recommendation of superintendent Dr, Stu Mu-sick to hire Goodwin Lasiter Strong as the architect for the Navasota Independent School District Maintenance Tax Note Series 2019.
GLS is the current architect for NISD handling bond renovations throughout the district. In their additional role as architect for the NISD Maintenance Tax Note Series 2019, GLS will spearhead athletic facility improvements at Navasota High School and Navasota Junior High.
Athletic facility upgrades include new turf, track, video scoreboard and sound system as well as repairing the elevator at Rattler Stadium. Three gym floors will also be replaced, two at the high school and one at the junior high.
The baseball and softball fields will get artificial turf and new LED lighting. There is also plans for concession stand upgrades, a new entry way connecting both fields, and possible bleacher improvements.
A new eight-court tennis facility with bleachers and lighting will also be constructed. It hasn’t been determined if all courts will receive lighting.
GLS has experience with athletic projects including the baseball/softball complex at Rusk ISD, an indoor football practice facility at Carthage ISD, basketball gyms at Slocum and Wells ISD.
The architect in charge of the projects is landscape architect Ben Miller.
Staff changes
The board of trustees approved the resignation of Jeff Dyer, effective Nov. 1. Dyer has been the director of personnel for two years at NISD and is accepting an assistant superintendent position at Marshall ISD.
Derek Bowman, the current principal at Navasota High School was unanimously voted to assume the position vacated by Dyer.
Kristy Ramsey, currently a high school assistant principal for NISD has been named interim principal at the high school.
The next regularly scheduled board meeting is Monday, Oct. 21.
