Still no winner in Queen of Hearts

It is tough to decide where to start. Let’s see, Friday was my second day to serve the Diamonettes at their camp. They seemed to like the desserts the two days that I served them since nothing was left and I made four desserts. I think the funniest day was when one girl asked if I made the cookies all by myself. Too bad I could not see my expression because it was most likely one of bewilderment. No, I take that back, she just doesn’t know the Gingi. Kacie even had a special shirt made for me that says “Diamonettes and Dance Gingi” on it. From Sunday to Sunday, I made six desserts so I can blame the “baker’s knee” on that and I won’t tell the daughters that I fell again. If I can keep getting up, I can keep it a secret, right?

On Saturday, Mike Serres and Mike Kurtin took a road trip to Bremond. On the way, they noticed the Calvert VFD was having a fundraiser. This event was for the Chief and his wife who were having many health issues. So, the WHCVFD guys stopped to take part in this very worthy cause before heading on to their destination. They know how important it is to help others who are in need. Thank you for representing our community.

The last I heard the goats were high tailing it down FM 2988 to bother some of my other neighbors. I send my best regards.

Saturday was a true whirlwind. I had my 50th class reunion and the 1969 NHS group had a great time. I won’t repeat the poem that Gary Briers quoted from our past classmates, Gary Husfeld, in one of their English classes. However, I am still laughing about that one. Thanks to Vincent Ruiz, John Silva, Jessie Castro and Delores Baldobino for encouraging me to help them get this class together because it was all well worth the time. Hollis Hood was instrumental for gathering names and addresses also. In the end we realized that approximately 19 of our classmates are no longer with us and we only had 118 in our class. Thanks to all who came. We will do this again.

Later at the Whiskey Tango, the only winner was me. The Queen of Hearts game was a strike with the man drawing the King of Spades. The crowd gets so close to the case that I can hardly get a photo for our auxiliary reports. We had folks who got there too late to purchase chances so once again, the time to buy is 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and then the drawing takes place. Once we close that cage, it is done! I won’t apologize for the Post in that we had to use different colored tickets because it is what it is.

After the drawing, I visited with Mike, Mike and Robby, the three cowboys. I really got some comments about “hoarding all the cowboys,” “seeing another side of you” and lots of eyes rolling. It is all good because, as usual, Mike Kurtin kept me laughing.

Salem Lutheran Ladies Circle are collecting socks for the nursing homes. If you are interested in donating these items, please feel free to call me and I will help arrange for collection. Thank you.

In addition, Post 4006 Auxiliary are collecting grocery items to assist the GHRC with replenishing the pantry. If you can help with a few nonperishable staples that would be great.

Lynn Grove UMC congregation is working to complete the expansion to their church and will be having their homecoming October 13 at 11 a.m. I will get more information from my friend, Laurie Shine, as soon as I can.
