Freeman participates in Eurobasket summer camp
Alexus Freeman took part in a Eurobasket Summer League camp in Florida.
The Navasota High School graduate played for Team Japan at the event. A former standout for Alcorn State University, the point guard finished the camp ranked 49th among 85 players. Players are ranked based on their combined player efficiency ratings, according to the WCLbasketball.com site.
The 24-year-old averaged 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds.
She had six points, four rebounds and one assist against England and three assists, two rebounds and two points against Germany. Freeman had two points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals against India.
Baseball
Anderson-Shiro High graduate Garrett Harris lost his first game in the Independent Canadian American Association. In his shortest start of the season, the Trois-Rivieres Aigles right-hander lasted just two and one-third innings against Quebec. The 25-year-old allowed six hits and a season-high six earned runs and issued a season-high five walks. With the outing, his record dropped to 7-1 while his earned run average climbed to 3.76. As of Thursday, he still shared the league lead in victories and tied for second in strikeouts.
Pitcher Tyler Eppler had a 4-3 record and 3.67 ERA in 20 appearances for the Orix Buffaloes of the Nippon league in Japan. The Navasota graduate threw a hitless, scoreless inning of relief during a July 23 defeat and struck out one.
Pitcher Dalton Acosta did not factor in the decision during Yuba-Sutter’s July 19 loss in the summer Golden State league. The former Rattler allowed one hit and three earned runs in one inning of relief. He plays for University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Football
Iola product Dustin Timm is no longer on the University of Arkansas at Monticello team. He was a junior offensive lineman last year.
