Friday afternoon, January 3 the gates of heaven welcomed Curtis Wayne Todd, lovingly known as Dad and Papaw as he passed peacefully holding Dorothy's hand. Born on October 20, 1932, in Kurten, Texas; Curtis lived a life marked by humility, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to his family.

He married the love of his life, Dorothy Lee Dudley, on November 15, 1958. Together, they built a 66-year legacy led by their unwavering faith in God and each other.

Curtis had a gift for humor, often bringing smiles to those around him with his quick wit and playful spirit. A humble and hardworking man, he spent 37 years dedicated to the Texas Highway Department and retired in 1993.

Curtis was a true teacher at heart, instilling in his family the values of hard work, faith, honesty, and the importance of looking people in the eye while speaking to them. He coached many young men in Little League (Bob Bond Park) during which he taught them all so much more than the game of baseball.

That twinkle in his blue eyes when he was talking with anyone was always evident. Curtis was never shy about talking about his family or his faith. He constantly reminded each of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren how very proud he was of them.

Curtis was a devoted fan of the Texas A&M Aggies and the Houston Astros, cheering them on through every season with enthusiasm. Now that he is cheering for them from heaven, who knows what they may accomplish!!

Above all, Curtis loved his family fiercely and unconditionally. His presence was a source of strength, guidance, and joy for everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Curtis was preceded in death by his father, George Ervin Todd, and his mother, Elsie Rae Gilpin Todd.

Curtis is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his sister, Mary Jane Miller; his daughters, Patty Todd Chenault (Billy), Pam Todd Allen (Tom); and his son, Craig Todd (Debbie); his grandchildren, Jason Allen (Kathy), Lindsey Allen Alvarado (Nick), Dawn Allen, Weston Chenault (Kelsey), Whitney Chenault Hessler (Brian), Skyler Oldham Kinsey (Jerri), Miranda Oldham Crenshaw (Chris) and Taylor Todd Starkey (Cody) as well as 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jack B. Dudley (Carolyn). He will also be missed by an abundance of numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.

A celebration of Curtis’ life will be held Friday, January 10, at Northview Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.; and the funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Graveside services will be at Wheat Cemetery in Millican, Texas after a meal at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Northview Baptist Church, 1809 Tabor Road Bryan, Texas 77803.

Rest in peace, Papaw. You will forever be remembered and will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to love you.
