Two Lady Rattler runners advance to Area
GIDDINGS — Two Lady Rattlers, Taniyah Warren and Jakayla Jones, punched their tickets to the Area track meet to be held Wednesday, April 17, at Sealy High School with great performances at the District 26-4A meet.
Freshman Warren placed third in varsity long jump, setting another personal record with a jump of 17-feet, one and a half inches.
“Taniyah has been a flat-out stud,” explained Navasota Track Coach Jersey Gates. “She has hit a new personal record in every track meet we have competed in this season and continues to improve every day. Long jump Coach Perishia Jones has done an unbelievable job with her this season, preparing her and training her to help her get to where she is now.”
Jones also qualified for Area with a fourth-place finish in shot put with a throw of 31 feet.
“Jakayla has continued to make major improvements and strides this year in shot put,” said Gates. “She has trained really hard with coaches Matt Fisher and Marquisha Culbreath every day and I am extremely happy for Jakayla that she gets to advance her season.”
Allison Wisnoski placed third for the junior varsity in triple jump.
The running events were slated for Saturday, April 6, but severe weather alerts postponed the meet until Thursday, April 11.
Gates said he anticipates several more qualifiers from the running events.
