loia takes down the Eagles
IOLA - The Iola Bulldogs are off to their best start in years and a win away from clinching a playoff berth with a 40-7 take down of the Milano Eagles at Bulldog Stadium Oct. 13.
The Bulldogs came in hot with a 41-yard touchdown run by Adrian Garrett to begin the first quarter. They added the conversion for an 8-0 lead. Iola stopped the Eagles forcing a turnover on downs. Tyler Elliot scrambled and connected on an 8-yard pass to Blake Bennett extending the lead 14-0.
In the second quarter, Tyler Elliot handed off to Cullen Walton for a 7-yard score. The conversion gave the Bulldogs a 22-0 halftime lead.
Eagles were ready to take flight, in the second half with a 25-yard pass from Anthony Valdez to Jesus Reyes, closing the gap, 22-7.
The Bulldogs cut the Eagles’ flight short with a 14-yard run by Elliott. The conversion failed giving Iola a 28-7 third-quarter lead.
Iola added a pair of scores to end the game. A 25-yard pass from Tyler Elliot to John England, and a 7-yard run by Elliott to finalize the score, 40-7.
The Iola Bulldogs (52, 1-1) are on the road this week playing the Bartlett Bulldogs (0-7, 0-2) at Jarrell.
