Rattler JV corrals Mustangs
MADISONVILLE - It was a dominant win for Navasota Junior Varsity as the Rattlers scored 30 first half points in a 43-19 win over the Madisonville Mustangs.
Eli Jennings escaped for the Rattlers first score, a 32-yard rushing touchdown. Sean Acosta powered across the goal line for the conversion. The Rattlers scored three times through the air in the second quarter. Jace Jablonski connected on touchdown passes to Valentine Castaneda for 16 yards, Ty’Kaivien West for 75 yards and Owen Otto for 51 yards. Navasota was 2-for-3 on conversions with Jablonski rushing both times.
“Overall, offensively after a slow start we started to get after it in the second quarter,” said Navasota Head Coach Grant Glendening. “The run and pass game were both effective for JV. Jablonski took some deep shots down the field, had three touchdowns and hit seven different receivers in the game Thursday. We also had eight different ball carriers rush for over 200 yards.”
Glendening credited Rodney Spinks for being very effective on the offensive line.
Giovanni Perez carried the ball 44-yards to paydirt in the third but missed the extra-point kick. Cameron Burrell capped the scoring in the fourth on a 50-yard run. Perez split the uprights on the point-after.
Defensively Glendening said Jennings, Toboris Warren and Alex Lopez each had a hand in making big plays defensively.
“We have lots of things to improve on but overall, we are happy with the effort our team displayed at Madisonville,” said Glendening.
The Rattlers will host Bellville Thursday, Aug. 7, at 6:30 p.m. Navasota Freshman hosts Bellville at 5 p.m.
