Anderson-Shiro alumni roping success

Brice Beene has a different team roping partner this college season.
The Anderson-Shiro High School graduate is in his second year competing for Weatherford College. 
The sophomore heeler has teamed with header Luke Williams during the fall and spring. "You kind of keep on getting that team chemistry," he said about staying with one partner.
They tied for fourth in team roping at an October event, their best showing. "Me and my partner finally found our groove," he said. "We had a couple good steers we were able to make runs on."
Last year he paired with Shane Sorge, who still competes for the Coyotes. At an April rodeo, they finished seventh on one head after not receiving a time in the finals.
Beene practices three days a week and has been working on his technique, "always focusing on roping and my horsemanship," he said.
He also is focusing on his mindset. "The mental aspect is so huge in the rodeo and roping industry," he said. "Keeping my mental side good and still believing in myself."

Also from Anderson-Shiro, header Colby McDonald and heeler Brady McDonald of Southwest Texas Junior College placed eighth in team roping at the McNeese State event. 

Baseball
Pitcher Trent Clark earned a save in his first appearance of the season. The Navasota High School graduate threw two hitless, scoreless innings of relief for East Texas Baptist University against Milliken. He struck out two. In his outing the next day, the right-hander allowed one hit in one scoreless inning but did not factor in the decision.
Nicholls State University pitcher Josh Mancuso had a 0-1 record and 0.00 earned run average in two relief appearances. The former Owl struck out five.
Senior catcher Jaggar Vaughn hit .263 in six games for LeTourneau University. The Iola High graduate had one home run and three runs batted in. He had a perfect fielding percentage in 19 chances.

Men's basketball
Navasota resident Trajan Wesley returned to action after missing two months because of injury. The Prairie View A & M University guard averaged 1.6 points and 1.1 rebounds in 14 games, including three starts.
