Iola Food Pantry open every third Saturday

Iola Food Pantry distributed food Feb. 18, at Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. It was well attended with several stopping for a variety of canned goods, meat, bread, eggs and desserts. The pantry is open the third Saturday each month for anyone in need of a helping hand.

Glenn and Betty Harmon had family visiting from Lincoln, NE over the weekend. They had 13-inches of snow in Nebraska. I’m sure glad it didn’t snow here.

Connie Francis spent several hours in the hospital due to a bad reaction to one of her medicines. Her grandson, Peyton Ray Brown, took her to the hospital. She was back home the same day and is doing fine now. As usual she was at church at Iola Church of Christ Sunday.

Area friends and family members of Fallon LeEtta Vaughn Garcia and husband Justin were happy to learn of the birth of their first child. Jax Kyle Garcia was born Feb. 22. He is the grandson of Davis and Debbie Reed Vaughn. Best wishes to all of them.

Iola Fire Department is hosting their annual fundraiser March 17-18 at the station. In addition to the BBQ cookoff there are lots of fun events planned to include live music, a silent auction, crawfish plates on Friday, a fried fish meal Saturday at 11 a.m. Other events include an auction with all sorts of baked goods and other items. Iola North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star held their monthly meeting Feb. 27, at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge building in North Zulch. There was good attendance by members and visitors. The covered dish meal was really good. A variety of business was discussed and acted upon.

Thursday, March 2, was Texas Independence Day. Hope you celebrated that special day in a special way.
