Don and I, as well as his sister and her husband, Joe and Denise Shead, traveled to Waxahachie Saturday, Feb. 25 to a Memorial Service for our Aunt Flo Brennen, age 95. The last time we visited her, and her husband, Uncle Harry Brennen, was in July when the four of us went to Waxahachie to take them to their favorite Chinese restaurant to eat for their 75th wedding anniversary that fell on June 29. Needless to say, these are two amazing people.
Sadly, a series of events took place in December that resulted in her passing on Jan. 11. Many of you will remember them for the time they lived in a mobile home in Anderson next door to Yankee Donuts. While here, they both volunteered at Fanthorp Inn for many years. While at The Inn, they became very attached to Cathy Nolte who was in charge of The Inn for many of the years when they volunteered. We were so happy to see Cathy Saturday as she traveled nearly four hours from Industry to attend. What a friendship!
Aunt Flo was also well known for her employment in libraries which spurred her interest in church libraries. She helped to build several of them over her lifetime. She and Uncle Harry were members of the Avion Travel Cade Club for many years and they led 14 travel cades. My most favorite memory of Aunt Flo was when they had a dog that had baby puppies under their home here in Anderson. When the puppies turned a year old, Aunt Flo threw them a full-blown birthday party and invited many guests. My sister, Carol Reissig of Montgomery, said “Aunt Flo, I don’t ever remember going to a birthday party for puppies.” Rest her soul.
Condolences to the family of Anthony Licce of Navasota, husband of Marilyn Licce, who passed away Feb. 23, three days after his 87th birthday. Anthony was seen at most every sport event in Anderson that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in. He will be missed dearly by so many.
