Wells score touchdown for Tarleton

Jordan Wells achieved a special feat for the Tarleton State University football team. The starting defensive lineman made a tackle for loss, forced a fumble and scored on a 6-yard fumble recovery all on the same play against Eastern New Mexico University. The Navasota High School graduate stopped the running back and converted the turnover on Eastern New Mexico’s second play from scrimmage in the first quarter, giving the team a 13-0 lead. The junior finished with a season-high eight tackles in the victory.

Northwestern State University of Louisiana quarterback Shelton Eppler completed 27 of 37 pass attempts for 387 yards against Nicholls. The former Rattler threw a season-high four touchdowns--of 1, 6, 9 and 23 yards--and matched his season high of passing yardage. For a second consecutive game, he did not throw an interception. As of Oct. 16, Eppler ranked second in the Southland Conference in passing yards per game. University of the Incarnate Word junior running back Keyondrick Philio had 10 carries for 73 yards in a win over Southeastern Louisiana. The past Rattler tied his season high in rushing yards for a game. He ranked seventh in Southland Conference touchdowns as of Oct. 16. Wide receiver Tren’Davian Dickson had a 5-yard catch for Texas Southern University against Missouri University of Science and Technology. He played for Navasota. Iola High graduate Ryan Renick has played four games for Texas A & M University. The junior tight end had one reception.

Men’s rodeo

Anderson-Shiro High graduate Paden Hurst finished first in the qualifiers of bareback riding at the Heart O Texas Rodeo and earned $1,856. He placed first in the group 3 first round and collected $1,061 and placed second in the group 3 second round to earn $795. Navasota resident Foster McCraw finished third in bull riding at a Bell-ville event. He earned $1,310.
