Sharp to lead Bulldogs
IOLA – There will be a new head coach leading the Iola Bulldogs this fall. Rex Sharp has been promoted to head football coach.
Last year Sharp served under first-year coach and athletic director Bo Barrow. Due to mid-season changes, Barrow took over the Bulldog boys’ basketball team. He will remain the athletic director and head basketball coach but elected to relinquish head football coaching duties. Barrow led the football program to a 2-8 record and District 13-2A Division II 1-4 finish in District 13-2A Division II.
During his coaching tenure Sharp led several football programs including Carlisle, Bullard, Somerville and Sabine. According to www.Texashighschoolfootballhistory. com during his 11 years as a head coach Sharp has a 41-62 overall record and 2-1 playoff record. He has led teams to a co-district championship and once as district runners- up.
Sharp also worked with Barrow at Sabine High School where he compiled a 27-26 record in five seasons. Iola will return 14 letterman including six offensive and five defensive starters.
