Rattlers within striking distance
BELLVILLE- The Navasota Rattler girls’ varsity basketball team went back out on the road Friday night, this time to Bellville, and came away with a decisive 47-21 victory. The win improves the Big Blue’s district record to 2-1.
Defense was the difference in the first half as Navasota allowed just one Bellville field goal during the first 16 minutes. Navasota led 21-8 at intermission. The Lady Rattlers heated up on the offensive end in the second half connecting on 9-of-17 (52.9%) of its shots from the field.
Junior Jakayla Jones recorded her second consecutive double-double. The 5-foot 11-inch post scored 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. She also had seven steals and three blocked shots.
Sha’dimon King scored nine points and grabbed eight boards. NaLa Richardson added eight, Cookie Leigh five and Taniaya Warren four. Tamia Dailey, Porsche Jones and Samia White each added two points each.
The win keeps the Rattlers within striking distance of league leading LaGrange who remains undefeated at 3-0. Navasota is tied with Smith-ville for second at 2-1. Navasota and Smithville tangled in Smithville Tuesday, Jan. 21 (results were not available at press time).
Navasota plays at Caldwell Tuesday, Jan. 28, beginning at 6:15 p.m.
