Navasota is in for the biggest change in the UIL biennial realignment that was released Monday, Feb.

3. Instead of heading south to Houston Navasota will head west for their district football games.

Navasota lands in District 13-4A Division II, Region 4, alongside the Cuero Gobblers, Giddings Buffaloes, Gonzales Apaches, La Grange Leopards and the Smithville Tigers. Being in a five-team district, all but one team will be guaranteed to earn one of the four playoff positions.

“It was a surprise for us,” stated Navasota head football coach and athletic coordinator Casey Dacus. “I like that it’s a change for us. With Navasota you never know where you are going to end up. It will make it easier scheduling sub-varsity games because with Houston schools a lot of them don’t have sub-varsity teams.

Anderson-Shiro will have a familiar district adding only the Warren Warriors to District 12-3A Division II, Region 3. Remaining in the district are the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs, Hemphill Hornets, Kountze Lions, New Waverly Bulldogs and the Newton Eagles.

“I Think everyone was pretty surprised we ended right back where we have been the last two years,” said Owl head coach and coordinator Brad Hodges. “None of the projections I had seen had anything close to that but that’s realignment for you. The travel issue will again be something we have to overcome and makes finding sub-varsity games more challenging for our guys. The good news is we know what to expect and we have had success in this district so we will look to build off that.”
