Nuñez to compete in NCAA Regional
PRAIRIE VIEW – Mia Nuñez, a freshman centerfielder for Prairie View A&M University helped her team capture the Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Championship and will compete over the weekend in the Baton Rouge Regional.
The Lady Rattler, who earned 4AAll-State honors in 2022 and helped guide Navasota to the school’s first playoff win, has already made a huge impact collegiately for the Panthers. Nuñez is hitting .317 with 44 hits including 12 doubles, a triple and seven homeruns. She has scored 38 runs and is 7-of-9 on stolen base attempts.
Prairie View is slated to play the No 10 seed LSU at 5 p.m. Friday, May 19. The game can be viewed on the SEC Network. The winner meets the game one winner at noon Saturday. The losers of game one and two meet at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. with the “if” game at 3:30 p.m. Other teams aside from Prairie View and LSU in the Regional are Omaha and University of Louisiana Lafayette.
The winner of the Baton Rouge Regional advances to the NCAA Super Regional to face the winner of the Seattle Regional.
