Navasota battles Australian team

    Courtesy photo The Navasota varsity girls’ basketball team competed against the Sunbury Jets of Australia during the Leander Glenn Basketball Tournament Thursday, Dec. 29. Navasota prevailed with a 57-53 win. Following the game, the Jets gifted their team beanies to the Lady Rattlers.

The 22nd ranked Navasota Lady Rattlers had a unique opportunity to battle a team from Australia during tournament action Dec. 29.

 

Navasota (22-4, 2-1) defeated the Sunbury Jets, of Australia, 57-53, at the Leander Glenn Holiday Classic. Following the game, the Jets gifted their team beanies to the Lady Rattlers. Navasota finished the tournament 2-2. In addition to the win over Sunbury, Navasota defeated Taylor 50-36. The Lady Rattlers lost to 5A Glenn, 60-32 and 6A Weiss, 47-42.

 

The Lady Rattlers picked up their second district win defeating the Wharton Lady Tigers 51-19 on New Year’s Eve. Jalyn Williams led Navasota in scoring with 12 points. Nala Richardson followed with 11. Bryann Stokes and Rihanna Richardson each scored 10. 

 

Navasota’s JV team improved to 15-2 and 3-0 in District 25-4A with a 40-8 win over Wharton.

 

Both teams played at El Campo Jan. 3 (results were not available at press time). The Lady Rattlers host Sealy Friday, Jan. 6 and play at Bellville Jan. 10.
