Mike Dacus Classic concludes

Navasota wrapped up the annual Mike Dacus Classic basketball tournament Dec. 6. All five Navasota teams competing in the tournament placed.
The varsity boys team placed second going 3-1. They opened the tournament with wins over Huffman, 61-49, and La Grange, 63-40. Navasota dropped their game on day two to Baytown Lee, 44-36. On the final day the Rattlers knocked off Giddings, 64-25.
Two Rattlers averaged double-digit scoring throughout the tournament, Javyn Jessie had 18 points-per-game followed by Jadyn Williams, 12 PPG. Ty’kavian West averaged 8 PPG, KP Powell 6 PPG, Da’corei Jackson 4 PPG and Kaddon Hubbard, Xavier Blackshear, Camerino Rodriguez and Markerian Wesley-Stamps each averaged 2 PPG.
Brenham placed first in the varsity division and Hampshire-Fannett placed third.
Junior Varsity
Navasota JV placed third with a 3-1 record. Lake Creek won the tournament going 3-0 followed by Brenham in second place. 3-0.
Rattler JV defeated Giddings 59-25, Franklin 47-27, lost to Lake Creek 54-38 then defeated Madisonville 44-35.
Freshmen
Brenham placed first with a 3-0 record, followed by Navasota in second place, 3-1, and Lake Creek in third place, 1-2.
Navasota lost to Brenham, 44-31, beat Lake Creek, 44-31, defeated La Grange, 42-37, and knocked off Giddings, 47-24.
8th Grade
Navasota placed first going 4-0. They defeated Hempstead, 68-16, Brenham, 50-45, Franklin, 53-32, and Madisonville, 58-34.
Madisonville placed second and Brenham finished third.
7th Grade
The Fang seventh grade team placed third with a 2-2 record. They had wins over Hempstead, 55-16, and Madisonville, 55-29. Their losses were to Brenham, 47-36, and Franklin, 35-31.
Versus Caldwell
All four Navasota Fang teams defeated Caldwell Dec. 7. 8th Grade A Team, 52-12; 8th Grade B Team, 28-16; 7th Grade A Team, 75-14; 7th Grade B Team, 18-11.
