Lady Rattlers avenge loss
IT was sweet revenge for the No. 20 Navasota Lady Rattlers as they avenged a disappointing loss beating Royal 47-35.
The Lady Falcons won the first District 25-4A matchup against the Lady Rattlers earlier this season and started on a 6-0 run Friday at Rattler Gym. The strike was delayed but the venom potent en route to the win.
Navasota (27-4, 7-1) had a huge defensive performance by Leyonce Williams who guarded the Falcons top player limiting her production. Offensively Navasota was led by junior Bryanna Stokes with 19 points. She also had five steals. Nala Richardson added 11 points.
The Lady Rattlers attacked the glass with two players grabbing double-digit rebounds. Kylie Steptoe grabbed 11 and Jalyn Williams had 10.
Navasota defeated Needville on the road, 64-24, earlier in the week. Stokes scored 21. Richardson scored 20 and reached a career high in steals with 14. She also dished out six assists. Williams chipped in with 11 points.
The Lady Rattler JV team improved to 19-2 on the season and remain undefeated in district, 7-0, with a 28-16 win over Needville.
Navasota played at Wharton Jan. 24 (results were not available at press time). Navasota hosts El Campo Friday and travel to Sealy Jan. 31.
