Lady Bulldogs finalize busy week
Iola had a wild week improving to an 18-2 record overall and going undefeated at the Rice Consolidated tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs started off the week Tuesday, Aug. 23 with a game against the Snook Lady Bluejays , winning in three sets (25-4, 25-9, 25-7).

Iola swept the field going 7-0, at the Rice Consolidated Tournament Aug. 25 - Aug. 27. The Lady Bulldogs began pool play on Thursday with wins over the Brazosport Exporters (25-5, 25-7), Rice Consolidated Raiders (25-8, 25-11) and Yorktown Wildcats (25-5, 25-11).
Iola continued their success Friday against Boling (25-18, 25-22), Burton (25-19, 25-22) and Tidehaven (25-23, 25-11).
On championship Saturday, Iola played Weimar for the Gold Bracket semifinal game and won (25-19, 25-20). In the Gold Bracket championship, Iola went head to head with Fayetteville, finishing the tournament with a 3-0 win (26-24, 20-25, 25-13).
“It was a very busy week for our team,” expressed Iola Head Coach Jamie McDougald. “We packed in a lot of games and had some great wins. We had some very tough competition and our young team battled hard. They showed a lot of heart when things were not going our way. I am very proud of how far they have come in a short amount of time.”
Friday, Aug. 26, at Brazos Christian Iola played Brazos Christian Friday, Aug. 26, and suffered a 3-1 loss (21-25, 25-13, 18-25,11-25).
Iola played the Navasota Lady Rattlers Tuesday, Aug. 30 (results were not available by press time). They will play at the Coldsprings Tournament Sept. 1 and 3, and will host Franklin Friday, Sep. 2, beginning at 4 p.m.
