Navasota Rattlers (0-0) at Bellaire Episcopal Knights
(0-0)
Friday, Aug. 30, 7 p.m. Candice Simmons Field, 4650 Bissonnet, Bellaire 2018: Bellaire Episcopal
34, Navasota 28
Recap: Zack Dyer and the Navasota Rattlers were stopped a foot shy of completing a hard-fought comeback in Casey Dacus’ coaching debut, falling to the Bellaire Episcopal Knights 34-28. Ke’Eric Moore, had an epic night, including three touchdown receptions.
Zack Dyer was 12-33 passing with three touchdown passes and two interceptions.
The Matchup: The Knights are a private school that has players with great size and speed. There are multiple players that are committed to play division one football in college.
Navasota returns experience on both sides of the ball including Texas Aggie commit Jordan Jefferson who plays on the offensive and defensive line and senior quarterback Zack Dyer.
The Rattlers anticipate a great defense with strength, speed and depth however Navasota is thin in numbers at skill positions such as quarterback, running back and on the offensive line.
Key Matchup: Whoever wins the battle in the trenches will win this game. Last season Navasota Head Coach Casey Dacus stated his team lacked strength in the trenches on both sides of the ball. He said the overall team strength has improved throughout the offseason.
The Knights have size and strength on both size of the line and like to enforce their will to establish the run on offense and stop the run on defense.
Rosebud-Lott Cougars (0-0) at Anderson-Shiro
Owls (0-0)
Friday, Aug. 30, 7:30 p.m.
Owl Stadium, 458 FM
149, Anderson
2018: Anderson-Shiro 13,
Rosebud-Lott 6
Recap: Zacarrius Haynes reeled off a 50-yard run and Cole Werner connected with Rance Imhoff to secure the win over the Cougars. Rosebud-Lott struck first, but the Owls stingy defense limited the Cougars the remainder of the night.
The Matchup: The Owls got a taste of victory last season erasing an extended losing streak. There are several returnees from the great season the Owls had last year, but they have graduated some key players on the offensive line. Haynes returns at running back rushing for over 1,200 yards last season and junior Cole Werner returns at quarterback.
Key Matchup: Defense will once again be a staple for the Owls, but the offensive line will need to prove themselves against the Cougars. If the Owls can win the battle at the line of scrimmage on offense, then Haynes should propel himself and the Owls to a great start and win over Rosebud-Lott.
Iola Bulldogs (0-0) at Somerville Yeguas (0-0) Friday, Aug. 30, 7 p.m.
Yeguas Field,
514 8th Street, Somerville 2018: Iola 32, Somerville 6
The Matchup: Iola is under direction new coach Kerry Bamburg. Somerville has a new coach as well. Io-la has dominated the Yeguas in all areas of the game in recent years. The strength of Iola football will be its defense once again, but its question mark will be on the offensive side of the ball.
Key Matchup: The key matchup will be Somerville’s offensive line against the Bulldog defensive front. Iola has continually been strong up front allowing its linebackers to make plays. If Iola is able to win the battle on the line, they should be able to win this game comfortably.
