Bigger they are, harder they fall Iola wins consolation in Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE – The No. 4 ranked Iola Lady Bulldogs continue to roll in non-district action winning consolation at the Huntsville High School volleyball tournament Aug. 17-19.
The Lady Bulldogs went 3-0 on the opening day of the tournament to earn a spot in the gold bracket. They defeated 4A Cameron 2-0, 6A Willis 2-0, and 6A Klein Oak 2-0.
Friday the Lady Bulldogs competed for and earned the number one seeding heading into bracket play Saturday. Iola defeated 6A Conroe Oakridge 2-0, 6A Klein 2-0, and 6A Klein Cain 2-0.
Willis bested Iola in three sets, 2-1 (2519, 21-25, 13-15) to begin play Saturday. Iola bounced back with consecutive wins, defeating Klein for the second time, 2-0 and 4A Salado 2-0. To win consolation.
Senior Lindsey Gooch earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Iola will compete in the Rice-Consolidated tournament Aug 24-26 and will compete against Bryan Rudder and Navasota at Rudder High School beginning at 5 p.m.
