Champions for Kids
Superintendent’s Update
One of my favorite TED Talks regarding education is by an incredibly inspiring teacher named Rita Pierson. Ms. Pierson talks about how you can take any situation and find the “good” in it ... if you just look hard enough. You see, anyone can find something negative to talk about. And, they’ll probably not have to look too hard to find someone to listen and share their griping or complaining with.
However, it takes truly inspiring people to look at any situation and turn it into something positive. It is those habitually positive attitudes that can truly inspire others and find greatness within those around them. She stresses the value and importance of human connection through those relationships that meet someone where they are and challenge them to reach higher.
Ms. Pierson taught her students a saying that said, “I am somebody. I was somebody when I came here, and I’ll be a better somebody when I leave. I am powerful and I am strong. I deserve the education that I get here. I have things to do, people to impress, and places to go!”
She closes her speech by saying, “We can do this. We are educators. We were born to make a difference!”
We have many amazing “Champions for Kids” right here at Navasota ISD, who were born to make a difference and do just that every single day by making those connections with students and those around them by inspiring greatness.
Thank you for all that you do to make a difference and to change the world one student at a time!
We are all in this together!
