TERESA ANN SCHWERTNER
1973 – 2019
Teresa Ann Schwertner, beloved daughter, adored sister, and loving mother was called home by the Lord on Friday, May 24, 2019, after a tragic traffic accident in College Station. Teresa, 45, was born on December 27, 1973, and lived in Anderson, Texas. She was raised in Wharton, Texas where her family owned and operated the Wharton Livestock Auction Inc.
She graduated from Boling High School and attended McNeese State University. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville, Texas. Teresa was a proud, fourth-generation Schwertner family member involved in the Cattle Auction industry. Growing up, Teresa could be found working in the auction’s alleyway, running tickets, and was no stranger to working cattle. For over 30 years, Teresa, has been involved in the cattle business and owned and operated the Bio Preg Check, LLC in Wharton, Texas since 2008. She handled the technician duties, marketing, day-today operations of the business, and public relations.
Teresa was an advocate of the western lifestyle. She qualified for the Texas High School State Rodeo Finals in the cutting horse competition, she served as flag bearer at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and she volunteered on numerous committees throughout the Gulf Coast that promoted the western life she revered. Teresa and her mother owned and operated Marshall & Company, a western themed boutique for years. The mother/daughter team became well-known proprietors with a loyal customer base. During Hurricane Harvey, Teresa was an unsung hero, assisting and coordinating getting cattle to higher ground after the Wharton Livestock Auction barn’s grounds began flooding after many ranchers sought shelter there for their herds.
Teresa had a passion for gardening, enjoyed a cold brew, and loved to travel. She could bake, shop and had an eye for fashion. She would wear a hat and flash a smile in a heartbeat. Her love for all animals was undeniable.
Teresa is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Herman William and Laurine Marie Schwertner and maternal grandparents Howard C. Lister and Mary Lister Peevy and Jack Peevy. She is survived by her most loved son, Will Lee, her precious parents, Billy and Mary “Sis” Schwertner, her best friend and sister, Sharon Schwertner Atkinson and her husband John, her cherished nephew Austin Atkinson, beautiful niece Molly Atkinson, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members. Teresa leaves a legacy of friends, clients, and bloodlines.
A celebration of Teresa’s life will include a visitation on Thursday, May 30, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Chapel at 402 E Blackshear St, Navasota, TX. On Friday, May 31, 2019, a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church located at 8227 County Rd 205 in Plantersville, TX with Fr. Edward C. Kucera, Jr. presiding. Serving as pallbearers will be Luis Camacho, Leighton Smith, Jody Matejicek, Lane Foltyn, Terry Schwertner, Tucker Blair, Bobby Miller, and Robert Dryden.
