RUBY HUSFELD 1931 – 2025
With heavy hearts, the family of Ruby Maurine Holderrieth Husfeld, shares the news of her passing on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at her home in Erwin, TX, where she was surrounded by her loving family.
A gathering of family and friends will take place Thursday, February 27, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1530 E. Washington Ave., in Navasota. A funeral service celebrating her life and faith will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Matthias Dinger officiating. Interment will follow in the Husfeld Family Cemetery in Erwin. A reception will be held following the interment at the Husfeld Camphouse. Arrangements are with Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home.
Ruby was born on March 30, 1931, to John and Lena Froehlich Holderreith. She was the youngest of six siblings, with three brothers and two sisters. Ruby was raised on the family farm which still exists today, situated on South Cherry St in Tomball, TX. Beginning parochial school at an early age, her faith was deepened which carried her throughout her life. Ruby graduated at the top of her class and excelled in everything she put her mind to.
On November 21, 1948, Ruby married Gilbert William Husfeld. In 1953, they moved from Tomball to Piedmont near Anderson, where they established a dairy farm until the mid-1980s. The couple was blessed with six children, comprising of three sons and three daughters, similar to Ruby's own childhood.
Ruby was a remarkably loving, generous, and devoted woman. In addition to caring for her own children, she welcomed a few others into the family from time to time. For many years, she consistently prepared three hearty meals a day, seven days a week, for her large household. Her homemade hard rolls, which Gilbert loved, and pies were enjoyed by many.
In the early 1980s, Gilbert and Ruby moved from Piedmont to Erwin, where they would spend the remainder of their lives. Ruby made the numerous holidays, birthdays, and special events memorable as she relished spending time with the family that had grown so large. Ruby had a profound love for her church and spent more than 40 years playing the organ for Sunday services. Her strong faith and trust in the Lord allowed her to put aside any worrisome thoughts, focusing on only positive outcomes. Ruby is finally getting some much-deserved rest in God’s loving arms.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; one sister; her beloved husband of 62 years, Gilbert William Husfeld, and their son, Gary Alan Husfeld.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter-in-law Dottie Husfeld; sons, Dennis W. Husfeld and wife Jo, Steven Husfeld and special friend, Marla Stolz Carroll; daughters, Elaine Davenport and husband David, Diane Hadley and husband James, and Cathy Wheaton and husband Herman. She is also survived by her
sister, Arlene Wottrich, and sister-in-law, Neva Broad. Ruby leaves behind a legacy of twenty-five grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. God is good.
