Jim was born on May 5, 1939, in Poughkeepsie, Arkansas, to the late Troy R. Burge and Audra Merle McGee. He spent most of his life in Texas, where he was a devoted husband, father, and friend.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Inez; his children, Tina Marie Burge of Montgomery, Texas, Betty Kay (Jim) Journey of Montgomery, and JeTery (Elizabeth) Burge of West Palm Beach, Florida; his sister, Eva Mitchell of Searcy, Arkansas; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Johnny, and Jack.
Jim worked as an industrial mechanic for 45 years. While at Boeing Aircraft, he was part of the team that built the first 747, a milestone in aviation history. He later worked for Helena Chemical Company, Pepsi Cola, and Inkjet Inc., where his expertise and dedication to excellence left a lasting impact on multiple industries. Known for his attention to detail and unwavering reliability, Jim was respected by colleagues and friends alike.
In 2009, Jim and his wife, Inez, moved to “The Farm” in Anderson, where Jim embraced rural life. He spent much of his free time tending to his garden and enjoying the peace of the country. An avid reader and skilled wood craftsman, Jim found great joy in learning new things and creating beautiful pieces of art with his hands. His quiet strength, kindness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
