Eugene “Gene” Phillip Burzynski, 91, of Richards, died Tuesday morning, January 14, 2020, at Accel at College Station.

A gathering of family and friends took place Thursday, January 16, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson. A parish rosary followed at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass celebrating Gene›s life was held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Rev. Elias Lopez and Msgr. Adam S. McClosky as the celebrants. The rite of committal took place in St. Stanislaus Church Cemetery. A reception followed in St. Stanislaus Parish Hall.

Gene was born to Louis and Rosalee Warzon Burzynski on June 7, 1928 in Grimes County between Anderson and Carlos and attended school in Anderson. He was drafted for military duty in the United States Army and served during the Korean War and was in Germany for two years. Gene was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

It was on November 22, 1952 that he married Lou Kattie Kroll at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson and they made their home in Richards and from this union they had five children and three grandchildren that added devoted love to the family.

Gene had many activities he loved. He spent many days fishing on Lake Conroe with his brother-in-law as well as all the trips he made deer hunting. At home he was known for his “green thumb” and his wonderful gardens. Gene worked hard in the farm life as well as raising cattle and his custom hay baling in the surrounding area. Gene was a lifelong catholic and member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lou Kattie Burzynski of Richards; four sons, Gerard Burzynski of Katy, Leo Burzynski, Alan Burzynski and wife Susan, Brian Burzynski and wife Janna, all of Richards; a daughter, Anita Johnson of Montgomery; grandchildren, Brianna Burzynski of Richards and Calan and Kaudia Johnson of Montgomery.
