Thane Family Reunion
The 65th Thane Family Reunion was held Aug. 10, 2019, at Friedens Community Center in Washington, with 95 in attendance. The Paul Thane family of Navasota was the host family with Bobbie Thane-Burke of Cypress serving as chairwoman.
Activities included registration at 11 a.m. followed by visitation, a brisket and sausage meal, silent auction, genealogy updates, business meeting, door prizes and a water slide for the children.
Cody Thane of Angle-ton served as master of ceremonies for the program and business meeting. There were seven births since the 2018 reunion, and each was presented with a four-generation pedigree. Two marriages were also recognized, and a candle was lit in memory for each of the two deaths since last year.
Alice Rodenbeck-Thane of Navasota was recognized as the oldest in attendance at age 90. Sparrow Elizabeth Vasut, daughter of Cody Thane and Kathryn Samuel-Vasut of Angleton as the youngest born July 31, 2018.
Fritz and Minnie Winklemann-Thane had 42 grandchildren, 13 of which are living, and 10 were in attendance.
Many of the descendants were from the Fritz and Minnie Winklemann-Thane Family of Navasota. Other family representation included Richard, Olga and Joseph Wegner of the Adolph and Charlotte Thane-Wegner family in Burton. Also, Delores Thane-Medford of Haskell, Wanda Bergstrom-Morris of Seymour and Glenna Schaake-Kinnibrugh of Seymour in the Willie and Henriette Emshoff-Thane family of Stamford and Bobby and Peggy Neumann of Kenney in the Heinrich and Wilhelmine Kokemoor-Winklemann Family.
Fritz Thane, Charlotte Thane-Wegner and Willie Thane were siblings born on the Thane Farm, 63 Wehdem, Germany in 1866, 1868 and 1871. All three migrated to New Wehdem, Texas in 1883, 1886 and 1889. Wilhelmine Winklelmann-Thane and Heinrich Winkelmann were siblings born on the Winkelmann Farm, 116 Oppendorf, Germany. They both migrated to Kenney, Texas in 1871, with their parents and three sisters.
The reunion ended with children playing on the water slide and everyone enjoying the many desserts and Blue Bell ice cream. Clayton Roy Thane of Navasota and Brynne Ferguson-Tuley of League City were door prize winners. The 2020 reunion will be hosted by the Henry Thane family of William Penn.
