Stolen vehicle pursuit ends in Navasota
A Spring man in a stolen vehicle led College Station Police on a high-speed pursuit that ended in Navasota early Monday morning.
At approximately 3:31 a.m., a College Station Police Officer was on patrol near Texas State Highway 6 South and William D. Fitch Parkway when he noticed a white 2003 Ford F-250 pickup traveling southbound on Hwy. 6. The officer ran the plates and learned the vehicle was reported stolen in Montgomery County. The officer called for backup and continued to follow the truck. Once backup arrived, the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over on Hwy. 6 near Westward Ho, but the driver, 41-year-old Chad Johnson, ignored the lights and sirens. He exited west onto the frontage road reaching speeds of 100 mph.
The pursuit continued onto Hwy. 6 southbound toward Navasota. Navasota Police Officers successfully spiked the front and rear driver-side tires, but Johnson continued to flee. He exited on Hwy. 90 into a business parking lot and began to lose control of the vehicle. The suspect accelerated and rammed the CSPD patrol unit.
Refusing to give up, Johnson exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
He was arrested and booked into the Brazos County Jail facing multiple charges including evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He remains in jail on bonds totaling $18,000.
