Reviving Blues music in Navasota
Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce is reviving blues music in Navasota, with a focus on the rich history that earned Navasota the moniker of the Blues Capitol of Texas.
“Our annual Reds, Wheats, and Blues Festival will look different this year,” said Chamber Executive Director Lucy Ybarra. “This year we are paying homage to the original Blues Fest that attracted blues lovers from all over to Navasota for years.”
Ybarra said the goal is to revive interest and eventually restore blues to the staple it used to be in Navasota. “Navasota has a rich tradition of blues music,” she explained. “It is evident at Mance Lipscomb Park and Blues Alley in downtown Navasota.”
Promoting local is something Ybarra has stood behind, so it is only fitting that she is promoting local talent during the revitalization concert. Homegrown talent will be on display with two local bands, Tubie and the Touchtones and Randy Pavlock and Twenty Four Seven. She will also mix in crowd favorite Cari Hutson and an act to be named.
The event will add to Veterans Day celebrations. “I encourage everyone to participate or watch the annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown town Navasota that morning, spend time shopping, then gear up for some great blues music,” said Ybarra.
Reds, Wheats and Blues will begin at 3 p.m. at Grimes County VFW Post 4006, 1575 W. Washington Avenue in Navasota. There will be local food vendors available and a full bar. Sponsorship tables are available, and a limited number of individual tickets are being sold.
Gold sponsorship is $2,500 and includes a table for 10 and drink tickets. For $1,000 you may purchase a silver sponsorship that seats eight and includes drink tickets. A bronze sponsorship is $500 and includes four seats and drink tickets. Individual tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door (standing room only).
