Rancher aides officer in suspect pursuit
Navasota Police Chief Mike Mize presented awards to Navasota Officer, Kyle Fritz, who serves as a school resource officer for NISD, and local rancher Will Binford. They both aided in the Aug. 2, capture of a suspect fleeing from DPS during a traffic stop. During intense heat, Fritz relentlessly pursued the suspect on foot, across fences and eventually came across Binford who was working in a field. Fritz had him pursue the suspect in his truck as he hung on the side. When they caught up to the suspect Fritz advised the suspect to stop or be tazed, he chose the latter. The suspect was arrested and charged with Evading on Foot, Delivery/Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 (greater than 400 grams) and Tampering with Evidence.
