Highlights from Grilling Stafford – episode 72
How many single-family homes does Navasota have, and how many more are currently under construc
tion? “I’ll give an estimate, we have between 2,700 and 2,800 homes. We don’t have an accurate count because people come in and out and we use our utility accounts [to get that number.] We have roughly 300 in the process of being built whether the plans have been submitted or in the final approval phase. We have quite a few and are still seeing a lot of growth”
How many apartment complexes are there in Navasota? “I think we have fi ve.”
Railroad Street is finally open, and it looks great! Parking was moved to the west side, but I noticed when driving through there are still some vehicles parked along the sidewalk. Are they able to do that? Will parking also be allowed along the sidewalk? If so, don’t you think that will make that street very congested? “There is no
marked parking on the east side of that street. The police department is patrolling, so don’t park along the sidewalk on the east side. Park where there is designated parking. You know it is a change, but after talking to all the businesses over there, they like that. Park on the west side and walk across the street to the business but don’t park along that street. You can pull up and drop people off. There is a drop off spot in front of P.A. Smith Hotel and you can drop people off there for anything they’re wanting to do but then you need to go park in a designated parking area. The drop-off is public, and anybody can use it.”
It’s sad that there is no access to the rivers from the new bridge. Who can I speak with to have my voice heard? “I’m assuming this is on Highway 105 going west over the two rivers. They would need to talk to TxDOT. That is a TxDOT issue, we don’t reach that far. They can talk to someone at TxDOT to see if they can help them out.”
City vehicles: The City is preparing to order 19 new vehicles from Enterprise Leasing. Approximately how old are the old ones and how many miles are on them? “I can’t remember the mileage on them, but we have some models as new as 2017. Then we have some that I believe are 10-years old, maybe even older than that. It is time to replace them.”
