NISD board approves athletic facility upgrades
Navasota Independent School District approved the Maintenance Tax Note Proposal for athletic facility upgrades in the amount of $4,390,000 over a 10-year span during a board of trustees meeting Monday, Aug. 25.
The motion that approved 7-0 means NISD will seek bids to fund upgrades to its athletic facilities and construct a new eight-court tennis facility. Navasota ISD superintendent Dr. Stu Musick said that the district could potentially utilize a million dollars from the fund balance and a million dollars from investment proceed earnings in which the district has earned approximately $1.2 million. The rest would go out for financing via a tax note proposal.
Proposed upgrades:
New turf on Rattler Stadium football field.
New track at Rattler Stadium.
Resurface baseball and softball fields with turf.
New lights on baseball, softball and football field.
Construct new tennis facility with eight courts, lighting and bleachers.
Replace/ repair elevator at Rattler Stadium.
Replace video board and sound system at Rattler Stadium.
New gym floors at high school main gym, high school auxiliary gym and junior high gym.
The board members agreed that maintaining all facilities including athletic is the responsibility of the district.
Board members also approved a new lower tax rate of 1.3219 for the 2019 tax year, down 9.3 cents from last year.
Board members were excited to hear from business manager Valerie Moore who reported a balanced budget. Moore stated this was the first time in her tenure that the budget has been balanced.
P-Ville Incorporated from Plantersville was awarded the contract for lawn care services throughout the district. Operations manager Dr. Ronnie Gonzalez said the company currently handles the lawncare duties and has “done a great job and has always accommodated when they are needed to do extra lawncare service throughout the district.” The bid is for an annual rate of $55,250.
The next scheduled board meeting is Monday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m.
