Keys. Lions Club on target with VFD donation
TODD MISSION - The Navasota Evening Lions Club in Navasota has operated the archery booth at The Texas Renaissance Festival for 43 years, and when they saw a need in the local fire department, they took aim and nailed a bullseye.
The Lions Club presented Todd Mission Volunteer Fire Department (TMVFD) with a $5,000 check for their building expansion.
TMVFD chief Cassandra Cook said the department currently has more firefighters than the building can comfortably hold. “We received a quote of $5,000 to cover the cost of materials needed for the expansion,” said Cook. “Thanks to the Navasota Evening Lions Club’s generous donation, we are able to purchase the necessary building materials to begin the expansion.”
Cook said the department has also received donations from the community which will be utilized in other areas such as costs for installing a water well and septic system so that a restroom can be installed for the firefighters.
According to Cook the department is also looking to upgrade their electricity to handle the expansion. She said she has been in contact with Mid-South Synergy to evaluate those needs.
A representative from the Lions Club said that when the club heard TMVFD was looking to raise funds for the expansion, they wanted to step up and help the department surpass their goal.
