Inclement weather across Texas disrupted classes in many districts including all Grimes County schools.

A wintery mix was forecasted Thursday, Sept. 3, prompting Grimes County schools to cancel classes. Temperatures dipped into the low-20’s Thursday, with the wintery mix beginning before noon in most areas of Grimes County.

As ice began sticking to roadways and temperatures not forecasted to rise above freezing Friday, Feb. 4, county schools decided to take precautions and cancel classes for the remainder of the week. High school basketball games across the district were postponed to Saturday, Feb. 5, however, Navasota played soccer games as scheduled Friday at Rattler Stadium in blistering temperatures.

For some schools such as Navasota ISD the inclement weather days won’t have to be made up. “We have two campuses, our junior high and Bizzell Academy that will have a couple of minutes to add to their day, but that will take care of us for now,” explained Navasota Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick.

Two school districts, Iola ISD and Anderson-Shiro ISD both missed time from school earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Since we had to dismiss school for COVID, we will have to make up these days,” stated Iola Interim Superintendent Jeff Dyer.

Anderson-Shiro hasn’t announced if they will have to make up the inclement weather days. Richards ISD also hasn’t announced if their days will have to be made up.
