House Concerts at The Gallery
When the sun sets on historic downtown Navasota, a small intimate concert venue comes to life.
Patti Pederson, owner of The Gallery Downtown, an art studio in the heart of Navasota, looks at the world through the creative eyes of an artist. Her creativity was taken to a new level as she combined her love for music with her love for art.
Her vision of combining the two came to life with House Concerts at The Gallery. The art studio by day has become a premier place to relax and enjoy a concert, bringing nightlife to downtown.
The journey up the cement stairs leads to a breathtaking experience. Wall to wall art with a stage in the corner, large enough to handle a full band. There’s an array of comfortable seating including couches and chairs.
There is a bar with an artistic touch serving local craft beer and wine. Food can be ordered from Classic Rock Coffee Company.
Once you settle in, there is only one rule before the legendary sounds begin. Keep talking to a minimum. “People pay to see the musicians perform in an intimate setting,” said Pederson. She said out of respect for the performers and attendees she likes to keep the talking to a minimum. “We offer a time for intermission where everyone can mingle and even visit with the performers,” said Pederson.
A capacity crowd at the Gallery is about 100 people, so the performers are up close and personal. Pederson likes performers that are as original as her artwork. “We only invite performers that have original music. We want to provide a venue for performers who write their own music and give them a platform to showcase their talents.”
A local couple, Gus and Sandy Gutierrez frequent the venue often. “I can’t believe we have a place like this in Navasota,” said Gus. “It’s a great place to hang out and listen to great music.”
The House Concert at The Gallery stage has welcomed musicians from various genres and backgrounds, each providing a different listening treat to the crowd.
Texas K.G.B. Band performed for the second time Saturday, Sept. 21. “We love this venue and we love Navasota,” said Kelly Green, lead vocalist and lead guitarist for the band.
The band brought an unforgettable performance mixing an array of sounds to make their unique sound. It was a high energy performance with moments of vocal harmonies.
There are several upcoming events planned for the venue. Sept. 28, from 7 p.m. till 10 p.m. is Werewolf Tea Party, a project started by Logan McCune and Mary Brett who met at an open mic night while attending Sam Houston State University in 2007.
Keith Michael Kallina takes the stage Oct. 5 and on Oct. 12 there will be a Steampunk Prom at The Gallery. Larry Hooper and Gabe Wootton perform Oct. 19 and Pike & Sutton will be onstage Oct. 26.
