Food donation assists local residents
ANDERSON - The Anderson Food Pantry, run by the Anderson Baptist Church in partnership with Brazos Valley Food Bank and with the support of volunteers, recently received a large donation of food items from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the benefit of hundreds of local families.
“Our pantry serves families from Grimes County and surrounding areas, as well as families from Houston and other parts of the Brazos Valley. No one in need is turned away,” said Pantry Administrator Renee Fredwood.
The donation from the Church of Jesus Christ included some items that have not been readily available at the pantry lately, including cheese, ground beef, vegetable oil and other items. The donation was valued around $1,300.
“We are grateful for the generous donation of food as well as volunteers that we received from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” Fredwood said.
Kathy Littlewood, a resident of Anderson and pantry volunteer, helped coordinate this donation. “We are blessed to be able to serve our community in this way, and the clients are always so kind. With the help of this donation, we served just over 200 vehicles this month, some with multiple families per car,” Littlewood said.
Anderson Food Pantry, 367 Fanthorp Street, is open for food pick up on the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon.
