Dr. Spiers to address GCRW
The Grimes County Republican Women (GCRW) will hear from Dr. Jon Spiers about the threat of fentanyl coming across the southern border at the Tuesday, July 18, meeting.
Dr. Jon Spiers is a surgeon, a veteran, and an attorney. He is the principal attorney at the health law firm Spiers Group, where he works to develop and build critical biotechnology and jobs in Texas to ensure the stable, reliable supply of essential medications on American soil. The Spiers Group is a legal consultancy focused on Texas-related issues, including national security, reshoring critical infrastructure, business, and resisting federal overreach.
Spiers attended Duke University on scholastic and football scholarships. He graduated with honors from Duke and attended medical school at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in Memphis, Tennessee.
While a general surgery resident, Spiers performed laboratory and clinical research partly funded by the U.S.Army, when he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Spiers followed his general surgery training with a cardiac and thoracic surgery fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine’s Michael E. De-Bakey Department of Surgery in the Texas Medical Center. He went on to become one of the first cardiovascular surgeons to adopt minimally invasive techniques, developing keyhole surgical techniques.
After a career ending injury to his arm and hand, Spiers enrolled in law school at the University of Houston. While in law school, Spiers developed a passion for national security issues, addressing issues as varied as transnational criminal threats, international relations, national security, health care delivery, and supply chain reliability. He published on the dangers posed by cartel activities and illicit drugs, outlining a national defense strategy that is now dominating the national discussion.
Dr. Spiers is married to Dr. Dana Myers, current Vice Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, and is a longtime resident of Houston, Texas.
