CERT training June 8-11
If you are not sure what to do in the event of a tornado, flooding, grass or forest fire and not sure how to safely evacuate your home within five-minutes should tragedy strike, there is a free program available.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a program that educates participants on how they can protect themselves and their families during hazards that may affect their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
Using the training taught in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in the neighborhood or workplace following an event which professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
A free CERT course is being conducted at the Navasota Center, 101 Stadium Drive, July 8 through 11, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Sessions
Sessions include Session 1- disaster preparedness, Session 2- (Registration) fire safety and utility controls. Session 3- disaster medical operations I, Session 4- disaster medical operations II, Session 5, search and rescue, Session 6- CERT organization/ ICS, Session 7- Disaster Psychology, Session 8- Terrorism and CERT and Session 9- review and stimulation planning.
