Bronwyn Bowen book signing at Navasota Library
The Navasota Public Library will host a book signing by author Bronwyn Bowen for her book Laughing All the Way: A Lucky Life. It will be on Saturday, September 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in addition to the monthly Farmers Market. The book includes descriptions of Navasota in the 1950’s and 1960’s where as a child, Bowen spent summers at the home of her grandmother. That house, on Brewer Street, was built in 1886 and is listed as the Steele House in the National Register of Historic Places.
She describes the book as “short essays on memorable moments of my life… My hope [is that people will] be drawn in and amused by the humor... and that my experiences will connect with their own in some way.” She said that when she writes, she imagines herself talking with friends over coffee. “I never thought of my life as interesting until I started writing about it.”
Bowen has twice spoken at the Two Rivers Heritage Foundation. Her most recent talk was about a chapter in her soon-to-be-released follow-up book, Still Got Something to Say. She said, “The topic was Navasota’s connection to the mass emigration of Confederate families to Brazil right after the Civil War, which few people seem to know about. Part of my Navasota family, whom I focus on in my essay, were among those ex-pats.”
She can be contacted via email at bbowen60@gmail.com with “Memoirs” in the subject line. The library is at 1411 E. Washington Ave. in Navasota. Call 936-825- 6744 for more information or visit their website, navasotatx.gov/public-library.
