Benton takes oath in Anderson
A near full house witnessed the swearing in of Anderson’s new mayor, Marc Benton, at a Special Meeting Tuesday night, May 16 at the Anderson Town Hall. Retiring Mayor Karen McDuffie called the meeting to order for the last time in her four year tenure before passing the gavel to Benton.
Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Lester Underwood performed the oath of office duties, first swearing in Benton, then returning aldermen Bessie White and Harold Minor, followed by Tanner Krause who was appointed to fill the seat vacated by Benton.
Attending the meeting and ceremony were residents, representatives from various organizations and numerous elected officials from throughout Grimes County as well as Judge Gary Chaney of the 506th District Court which serves Grimes and Waller counties.
