‘Ping pong’ collision downtown
Navasota Police responded to downtown Navasota for a reported collision at 3:53 p.m. Friday, March 19, and learned five cars were involved in a “ping pong” affect crash.
Officers determined Mary Love, 71, of Navasota, was driving a 2008 Kia traveling eastbound on Washington Avenue. Initial reports show that Love failed to control her speed beginning in the 100 block of East Washington Ave., striking a parked 2016 Ford Explorer.
According to officers, the Explorer had three children inside the vehicle, but all were unscathed. Love continued east and rear-ended a 2003 Honda Goldwing motorcycle driven by Roger Sailors of Houston. Sailors didn’t suffer any injuries.
Love continued east and struck another parked vehicle, an unoccupied Lincoln Navigator. AT some point, a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Yvette Rose, age 50, of Huntsville, was also involved in the collision. Rose and Love were both transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Rose had a young child in the vehicle with her at the time, but the child was not injured.
“It was reported by witnesses that Love struck two additional vehicles, who did not stop,” said Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
