The list keeps growing this week at Hotel Gingi. Bean decided to stay a few days. He came to help at the Veterans of Foreign War Museum.

The VFW Museum is looking better but we still have a long way to go. If you have artifacts to share, even photos, give me a call.

The Koka Kola Cowboyz played at the VFW Post Friday night. They are a very good band playing old-time country music. The crowd was very small. Thanks to all the people who came out. The nachos were great.

Thankfully, I had electricity the other night where many Grimes County people weren’t so fortunate. I have seen pictures of damage and talked with others that also experienced problems. The kiddos and I were a bit leery once the wind started blowing my hanging plant baskets in circles.

Gosh, my oldest granddaughter turned 15 this week. Watch out Whitehall, she may begin her driving experience.

The Whitehall Community VFD welcomes new members. We can always use more firefighters and auxiliary to help ensure the safety of our community. Don’t forget to come and get your barbecue sandwich July 6. We begin serving around 11 a.m. and continue till sold out. As a reminder, the price per pound has increased to $15.

Well, Bean and I did go for breakfast and a movie this week. He was even willing to check out the At Home store with me. I don’t think I have ever seen so many chair cushions before. I think Bean had fun and we didn’t even come close to checking out the entire store.

Sonshine Sisters met this week and as usual, we had fun. If you have the chance, come and visit us on the third Thursday of the month. We would enjoy having additional players at the table. If nothing else, come join us for lunch.

The Grimes VFW Post 4006 Auxiliary had a surprise at their monthly meeting. Kristen Parkinson, the outgoing District 17 President, surprised us by presenting the Auxiliary with 6 awards she accepted for our group at the State meeting. We received four first place awards, one second place certificate and one honorary mention certificate. According to president Parkinson, we received more awards than any other auxiliary in the district. President Parkinson refers to us as the “little engine that could.” I am so proud of our small group.

Queen of Hearts is still going on as there has not yet been a winner. Just an FYI.

The Grimes Chamber of Commerce indicates there will be the annual Fourth of July parade in Navasota. Give them a call if you wish to participate in this event.

July 6 marks the eighth anniversary for the Texas Pickers. Their sale begins every first Saturday at 8 a.m. and continues to 4 p.m. There are numerous vendors who come to sell their goodies. It appears that the Whitehall Café is near completion. I am waiting to find out what they will be serving.

Please keep Mr. Carl Dry in your prayers. He became ill this past week and has been hospitalized. In addition, please keep my Aunt Norma in your prayers. She had to have her hip surgery redone.

Unfortunately, I received a message late Thursday that Mr. Neal Bosse passed away. He was a devoted Rattler Booster Club member and attended games as much as he could. This year he was in a wheelchair, but he still attended many of the games. Keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

Our sick and homebound friends include Sue Kolojaco, Lawrence Lieder, Dorothy Mahaffey, Mary Bauer, Lillian Shimshack, Albin Finke, Charles Waters, Rosa Finke, Leonard Serres, Lois Bell, John Lawrence, Allen Fields, Jerri Ripper, Susie Rimes, Rickey Binford, Charles Wellman, Larry Farmer and Alexander Hanna, grandson of Curtis and Darla Kolojaco. Please add them to your prayer list.
