MSCN host District IV Conference
The Music Study Club of Navasota, a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, hosted the Texas Federation of Music Clubs’ District IV Summer Conference Saturday, June 15, at Martha’s Bloomers. Three clubs comprise District IV, Matinee Musical Club of Rockdale, Waco Euterpean Music Club and the Music Study Club of Navasota. There were approximately 32 attendees at the event.
Several of Navasota’s club members participated in conducting the meeting with Musical Interludes performed before and after the meal. Vocalist Noah Wenzel, a 2018 Jane Lott Scholarship winner, who is currently studying music at Blinn College was the first to perform.
The Business Meeting included a report from each club regarding its various activities during the past year. Next those in attendance were treated to the second Musical Interlude which featured a flute solo by one of MSCN members, Allyson Sweeney. She was followed by her daughter, vocalist Maddie Claire Sweeney who was accompanied by Jeanette Tanski.
Additional business items included the decision to continue District IV’s participation in the Guitars4Vets Program where a vet suffering from PTSD is given guitar lessons and presented with his/her own guitar. The program has benefited a number of vets; several have, in turn, chosen to teach other vets to play, thus perpetuating the value of the program. The final agenda item was to install new District IV officers for their two-year terms for 2019-2021. Two MSCN members were elected, Carol Jean Gessner will serve as District IV President and Carolee Botkin was elected as Historian.
The meeting closed with the singing of the National Federation of Music Club’s Benediction, The Gift of Song.
