Evergreen hosting Candlelight Service
Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Domingo Mingo Padron, age 82, who passed away Dec. 5. He was certainly a good man and will be missed by all that loved him and were a friend to him. He was born July 2, 1941 to Julian and Sandra Flores Padron. Throughout his life he was known to be a hard worker, provided for his family and to those that were in need of help.
Padron was a Vietnam Veteran and provided for others in need. He returned home from service while others didn’t. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Cindy and other family members. His service was held at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Burial was in Lake Grove Cemetery where many of his family members are buried. Following the service, a meal was provided at the Iola Community Center. Many loved ones and friends attended.
Another death and burial in the are is Glynn Ray Shiflet, age 70, who passed away Dec. 8. He was born Jan. 4, 1953 to Roy Leon and Bobbie Marie Hall Shiflet. He graduated from Madisonville High School in 1971 and served his country during the Vietnam War. His funeral service was held at Madisonville Funeral Home Tuesday, Dec. 12. Burial was held in Pankey Cemetery in Bedias. Do remember his loved ones in your prayers.
The monthly distribution of food at Iola Missionary Baptist Church was held Saturday, Dec. 16. There were 86 families that came out. The food distributed will feed around 241 people. The pantry is open the third Saturday each month. The day before volunteers gather around noon to set up for the event, Volunteers are always needed for set up and distribution.
A double tombstone was recently erected in Martins Prairie Cemetery by James T. and Lynn Stuckey for their future resting place. May God grant them many more years together.
I would like to welcome Eric Mitchem and his family to the community. They recently purchased the former home and property of the late Vaughn Jarvis who passed away in 2014. May his memory be forever blessed. It is good to have the Mitchem family here.
Evergreen Baptist Church had their Christmas party Sunday evening, Dec. 17, with around 40 people present. A good time was enjoyed by all. A good meal was served, and all sort of fun games were played. The pastor, Rev. Jeff Morgan, was presented a sign that reads Evergreen Baptist Church. Those present had an ugly sweater contest. The winner was Rev. Jeff Morgan and runner up was Alec Pointer.
Evergreen Baptist Church was decorated with poinsettias in memory of the following: Tyler Compian, Dean DeHaven, James and John Sanford, Clyde and Ruby Maxwell, Homer and Lillie S. Vaughn, Tatum and Elwyn Trant, Carolyn Kellogg, and Bill, Mary and Fred Selman. May their memories be forever blessed.
