4-H Dessert fundraiser Nov. 19
I apologize for no news last week but there was a technical issue with my computer and it was not the operator this time.
The White Hall Community VFD held a Truck or Treat on Halloween night. Pastor and Mrs. Christians offered a cupcake walk and there were donations that were placed in a free raffle. Afterwards, members shared their buffet of homecooked entrees with visitors. It was a good night for all. Elvis was in the house and he sure was cute! Actually, my great grandson played the part, microphone and all.
Wedding details kept me from working the first Saturday sandwich sales, but I was told it was a good day again. Thanks to all the members who worked to make this fundraiser happen and to all the loyal customers we have.
The monthly business meeting for the WHCVFD was held Monday, Nov. 7. There were 17 members and one prospective member present. The main topic was a discussion regarding Emergency District Services.
Congratulations to Michael and Brooke Serres on the birth of their daughter, Charlotte. Charlotte is the granddaughter of Michael and Carol Serres. Also, Zoey Faith Cotter was born Nov. 9. Zoey is the daughter of my nephew Dustin Cotter and wife, Emily. I know that my sister and family are excited to get to Nebraska to see their new addition to the family.
On Tuesday, I attended the first girls’ basketball game in Somerville. My Bree seems to keep the crowd alive with her antics and she was actually cheered after she had a technical foul called on her, in the first quarter no less. Towards the end of the game the same girl was knocked down or tripped by another player, so Bree went and helped her up. Her foul wasn’t intentional, but those girls play rough!
Nov. 19 the Courtney- White Hall 4-H group will be at the White Hall Store selling those good desserts again as their fundraiser. Please help this group of young students as they work to make monies for their scholarships.
Ladies Circle met Wednesday for their monthly meeting. We received enough support to be able to place a wreath on each of the veterans’ graves in the cemetery at Salem. I would like to thank those who contributed to make this happen. Dorothy Holtkamp helped me place flags on all the veterans’ graves at Salem in honor of Veterans Day.
The Grimes Resource Health Center (GHRC) is collecting socks for the elderly this year. There will be drop boxes around Navasota. Locations will be listed as soon as these are secured.
The Grimes County VFW Post 4006 Auxiliary is still collecting pull tabs which are used for donations to the Ronald McDonald House. You can drop these off at Discount Cleaners.
