Whitehall News

Old age is kicking in. It happened. I fell headfirst in the front yard. Therefore, if you are my neighbor, please look when you drive by and check if I am down! Thank you.

The Chamber Mixer a week or so ago at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post was nice. For some reason, I always expect more people than those that show to functions. Maybe I should reconsider my own expectations. It is good to mingle and meet new people. Janice Trant was there with a sign-up table for the Auxiliary; Maxine Dry sang and had stars and poppies available. I was excited to see a new transfer to our Auxiliary present and Mrs. Mary Fontaine was available, too. Me, I just mingle!

Margaret Finke called to check on me and told me that she is doing much better. I also chatted with Ms. Pauline Kaspar and she is doing well too. This is all good news.

Navasota High School Class of 1969 50th Reunion is Saturday, Aug. 17, from noon till you decide to leave the Western Club, Dutch treat. Hope to see you there! Please feel free to call me if you have questions.

I have never been much of an animal person, possibly since we only raised calves and hogs for butcher when I was little. I did have a favorite dog, Lady, and a neighbor ran over her so that did it for me and favorite animals. Therefore, while I was cutting limbs and spraying weeds the other day and a goat approached, Chucky and I both were a little leery on how to react. She was somewhat docile even though she charged Buddy and Chloe. They had several standoffs which was funny. However, jumping on a car, nope. That did it. That action didn’t impress me, and I was not sure what my reaction would be should she decide to hop on the Gingi Toter. My first thought was not healthy for the goat!

I received the following message for my column: Thank you family, friends and neighbors that came out to support the opening of Whitehall Café Saturday! Swing by for great barbecue and burgers. Please like our Facebook page, Whitehall Café, for menu updates and hours of operation. Our Texas Pickers food vendor Good Time Eats, will run the café on first Saturdays.

The Autry – Perez wedding was very nice last weekend. I had to leave early and missed a piece of the wedding cake and a dance with the bride’s father. I am happy they chose the community center for their special day. Congratulations Dennis and Stephanie.

Of course, the Whisky Tango was hopping, that is, until around 10 p.m. It seems like the crowd diminishes once the drawing has been done. No, there was not a winner again.

I am not certain on Mr. Taylor’s first name but he and his wife, Darlene, live in our community. Please keep Mr. Taylor on your prayer list.
