Veteran’s Day activities Saturday, Nov. 6
No, I do not want to know how many days until Christmas, I want to be able to enjoy the fall colors and Thanksgiving first. I know the big craft stores already have Christmas items out, but I was a bit shocked that our own Walmart also had decorations and trees. However, they did not have windshield wiper fluid, which was what I needed.
If you have tattered flags that need the proper retirement, please feel free to leave them in the Boys Scout Troop 361 box at the door of the VFW.
The Salem Lutheran Voters met this week to continue to make plans for maintenance to the church and other buildings, elect new officers for the upcoming year and acknowledge that Pastor Mayerhoff has accepted the call extended to him to stay with our congregation and assist us in growth.
Salem Ladies Circle also met this week and made plans for the remainder of the year. Potluck will be Sunday, Nov. 14. Reminders will be forthcoming.
The VFW Post 4006 offers two student awards programs and the SMART Maher teacher contest. The information is shared with the county schools and al so being printed in The Examiner. If interested, you can go to vfw.org, click on Community, then to Youth and Education and follow the prompts to the Patriot’s Pen, Voice of Democracy and the SMART Maher Teacher. Deadline for each of these is midnight, Oct. 31. If you have questions, please feel free to call me.
The District 17 Auxiliary is still accepting socks for veterans and nursing homes and pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. District 19 is collecting plastic caps for benches for the homeless. We appreciate any help you can give us.
WHCVFD station will be open at 6 p.m. on Oct. 30, to welcome all the spooks and goblins as we celebrate Halloween. We will be there until 8 p.m. so come and see us.
The City of Plantersville will hold their Halloween event on Oct. 28, also 6 to 8 p.m. and veterans and auxiliary members will be there.
Please come and help to honor veterans at the Post Veterans Day activities on Saturday, Nov. 6. The parade begins at 10 a.m., with a meal at the Post followed by a bucket raffle and our standard early raffle. We hope to have some good items. You can register for the parade by calling the Post, 936-825-3666.
FREE Bingo is still being held at the Post 4006. Bingo begins at 5:30 p.m. and is usually over around 7:15 p.m. We welcome you to come and join in the fun.
